What’s Stopping You?

Make Brake Maintenance Simple - and Profitable.
Stuart Smith, Tool Connection’s Technical Services Manager, gives some advice on making brake maintenance simpler and talks about the ten tools you shouldn’t be without.

More than anything else, well maintained brakes are essential for a car to comply with the law and ensure the safety of driver, passengers and other road users. The MOT demands that a vehicle’s brakes are efficient and it is a vital part of vehicle servicing, one where customers pay willingly for good service and advice.

Brake servicing and maintenance can be very profitable and simple to carry out if you have the right tools for the job and the right approach. Diagnosing problems and finding the faults fast is the secret to speedy, profitable repairs, but it demands a plan of attack.

Two Tips Before You Start.
Before you even start, here are a couple tips that could save you a lot of time later.

Tip One: Assuming the wheels were correctly balanced when you stated work, mark the valve position in relationship to the hub before you remove the wheels, it makes them easy to realign and will save wheel rebalancing later

Tip Two: When carrying out work on a car that is needed back on the road fast, make a thorough inspection to check what parts are needed, then take pictures of them with a digital camera. Also note details of the chassis number, year, make and model of the car. Preparation like this means you will have all the right parts ready to start the job and won’t have wasted time guessing which part you need, forgetting items or getting them to the wrong spec.
